TEPS 청해 파트 2,3 에서 자주 나오는 구문
1. A and B are not necessarily synonymous. A와 B는 꼭 같은 의미는 아니다.
synonymous : 같은[비슷한] 뜻을 갖는, 동의어[유의어]의
ex) Work and job are not necessarily synonymous.
2. S am/is/are + 비교급 + than average. ~이 평균보다 더/덜~하다.
ex) The baby is bigger than average.
3. It must have been something + 형용사. 그것은 뭔가 ~한 것이었음에 틀림없다.
ex) It must have been something special.
4. S + V, while S + V. 하는 반면 ~이다.
while : 하는 동안[사이] / 이긴 하지만, ~에도 불구하고
ex) Worrisome thoughts have adverse effects, while joyous thoughts have beneficial effects.
5. S has/have the same effect as -. ~는 -와 같은 효과를 갖고 있다.
ex) It has the same effect as caffeine.
6. The Koreans, as opposed to ~, + V. 한국인들은 ~와는 달리 ~하다.
as opposed to : 와는 대조적으로; ~이 아니라
ex) The Koreans, as opposed to the Chineses, drink a lot of beer.
7. I base something on -. 나는 ~을 -에 기초하고 있다.
base something on/upon something : ~에 근거[기반]를 두다
ex) What are you basing this theory on? 이 이론은 어디에 근거를 둔 것입니까?
8. I become aware of the fact that +절. 나는 ~라는 사실을 인식하게 되다.
be[become] aware of : ~을 알아 차리다, ~을 알다
ex) They were aware of the landlord's malevolent purpose.

cf) "~하지 않을 수 없다.' cannot but + 원형동사 / cannot help + ~ing
14. S have/has no regard for -. ~는 -를 존중하지 않는다.
ex) She has no regard for the feelings of others.
15. In this respect S + V. 이러한 점에서 ~하다.

ex) He was quite explicit in this respect. 그는 그 점에 대해서 조금도 숨김이 없었다.

ex) Customs vary from place to place.

flexibililty : 다루기 쉬움, 유순함 / 적응성, 융통성
