He is no better than a beggar.
=He is as good as a beggar.
***Incorrect. “As good as” refers to something that is very potentially likely, but has not occurred, as in “He is as good as hired after that great interview”. It is different that the meaning of “no better than”, which means the same as, in a negative way. The two phrases can’t be interchanged.
