Northland Hospital Opens a
Research Center
Almost
a year after first being announced, the dream of opening a research center is
finally becoming a reality for the doctors at Northland Hospital. ‒ [1] ‒. In a
building adjacent to the west wing, the new research center will serve to
assist doctors in innovating medical procedures and surgeries.
“We
have an amazing team of researchers here. When I first started advocating for a
research center, I had hoped to provide them with the necessary equipment to
figure out how to treat patients in new ways. Now that the team members have it,
I’m excited to see what they will be able to do,” explained head surgeon Dr.
Andrew Bleeker. ‒ [2] ‒. One specific example Dr. Bleeker discussed was related
to heart surgery. Presently, several Northland doctors are working on creating
a less invasive surgical procedure for heart transplants. ‒ [3] ‒. “If they are
successful, it could completely change the way we treat our patients who
require such surgery,” he said.
In
the meantime, the hospital will be expanding its internship program to include
new specialties in the coming months. With the new center, there is more room
for learning and practicing than there was before. ‒ [4] ‒. Information about
the expansion of the program can be found on the hospital’s Web site at
