The professor always tells us that we should do our work very hardly. |

I hung out with my friends drinking beers, so I got home lately. |

안녕하십니까~^^
오늘은 오류를 자주 범하는 ‘부사’에 대해서 알아보도록 하겠습니다.
우리들은 [명사 + -ly = 형용사/ 형용사 + -ly = 부사] 라는 패턴을 잘 알고 있습니다.
너무 잘 알고 있기에 오류를 범하기 쉬운 녀석들이 ‘hard/late/detail’입니다.
미리 말씀 드리면 ‘detail’은 형용사가 없습니다.
*포인트 정리
The words ‘hard’ and ‘late’ can be used adverb as well as adjective BUT have different meaning. Again, they are used as both an adjective and adverb. |
*추가 설명(1)
hard | adj. solid, firm or stiff, difficult adv. with effort. strenuously | 각각의 다른 의미를 가지고 있다. |
hardly | adv. almost not, scarcely, barely |
자 먼저 첫 번째 표현부터 바로 잡아 볼까요?^^
Corrected as..
The professor always tells us that we should do our work very hard.
‘hard’가 각각 형용사와 부사로 사용되는 예문을 보겠습니다.
I have been studying TOEIC very hard [adv] to get good grade, but it is still hard [adj] for me to completely finish the last part of the test. I am always running out of time.
두 번째 문장입니다.
같은 원리입니다. ‘lately’는 부사로서 ‘recently, in the recent past’라는 의미를 따로 가지고 있습니다.
Corrected as..
I hung out with my friends drinking beers, so I got home late.
‘late’가 각각 형용사와 부사로 사용되는 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.
I got home late [adv] yesterday because of studying TOEIC, and my girlfriend was also late [adj] but we had a late [adj] dinner together, and went to sleep very late [adv].
마지막으로 알아볼 녀석은 앞에 두 표현과는 성격이 다르다고 할 수 있습니다.
일단 품사가 명사와 동사입니다. 형용사는 없습니다.
물론 [detailed: 세부의, 자세한] 잘 알고 계실 것입니다.
[a detailed descriptions/ analysis/ study]
*포인트 정리(2)
To express the adverbial meaning of ‘detail’, we can use the phrase ‘IN DETAIL’. Be careful. English speakers NEVER use ‘detaily’. |
‘자세하게’ 라는 부사적 표현을 하기 위해서는 ‘in detail’ 이라는 구를 사용해야 한다. ‘detaily’ 라는 표현은 영어에 없다.!! |
Corrected as..
I told parents about my plan in detail.
예문을 통해서 배운 내용들을 확실하게 마무리 지어보겠습니다.
e.g1) I don’t have a detailed knowledge of American history, so I need a book explaining it in detail.
e.g2) I put my all experience on my resume in detail because the director of HR require a detailed history of my previous work experience
관련된 표현으로 아래와 같이 사용되는 ‘go into detail’이 있습니다.
My professor always gives us a basic theory and he doesn’t go into detail. Furthermore, the professor always tells us that we should do our work very hard.
