Al Capone, one of America’s most infamous gangsters, was born to Italian immigrant parents on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York. He quit school when he was only fourteen and joined different street gangs before eventually moving to Chicago and becoming the protégé of mobster John Torrio. Upon Torrio’s retirement, Capone took over his position and supervised mob-run gambling and bootlegging rackets. As the leader of Chicago’s organized crime, he enjoyed immense wealth and notoriety.
